On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Brief description

Within this module you will be given the opportunity to consider, in detail, the curricular and skills requirements within your subject area, in addition to policy and research guidance which contributes to the knowledge base in the field. By considering the pedagogical content knowledge, the professional values and standards, and the external qualification specifications and requirements, you will be given the opportunity to evaluate your own knowledge and skills and to develop ideas to enhance and improve your own practice. The importance of collaboration and partnerships will be emphasised and you will reflect upon the skills and experiences of colleagues within the same subject area. Consideration will be given to quality enhancement and development within the subject, as well as attention given to the opportunities and potential of sharing best practice across curricular boundaries.

Content

Each unit will comprise of two hours combination of lectures and seminars.
Unit 1 - Understanding and evaluating curricular subject content
Unit 2 - Working with external qualification specifications
Unit 3 - Pedagogical Content Knowledge
Unit 4 - Subject specific, basic and key skills development
Unit 5 – Subject specific professional values and standards
Unit 6 - Best Practice in Subject area
Unit 7 - Resource evaluation and development
Unit 8 - Quality enhancement and development in subject area.
Unit 9 - Innovation and creativity and cross-curricular working
Unit 10 - Developing Professional networks

Module Skills

Skills Type Skills details
Application of Number Statistical reports may be considered and data to support arguments may be analysed.
Communication This will be developed both in seminar discussions and in preparation for the assessments.
Improving own Learning and Performance This will be a core skill developed within the module, with a clear emphasis on self-evaluation, where the students will be expected to consider impact on their own practice.
Information Technology All assignments will be word processes and students will be required to utilize IT resources in the research of their assignments.
Personal Development and Career planning This will be an integral skill developed within this module and will be a core part of one of the assessments.
Problem solving Students will consider how to address specific issues within their own contexts and practice, and develop the skills to address this in the future.
Research skills This will be developed throughout the module but particularly in regards to the research necessary in the assessments.
Subject Specific Skills Students will develop skills in regards to teaching, evaluating, and developing professional practice through research and collaboration.
Team work This will be a core skill developed within the module, with a clear emphasis on self-evaluation, where the students will be expected to consider impact on their own practice.
