Brief description
This module explores the landscape of curriculum, curriculum design and planning and assessment across different educational systems, with a focus on England, Wales, and global perspectives. Students will engage in a deep dive into the definitions, ideologies, and historical contexts of curriculum, alongside the evolution of assessment strategies. Through a combination of academic dialogue and practical application, the module challenges students to critically evaluate curriculum and design innovative assessment tools, enriching their understanding of educational effectiveness and accountability. The course culminates in the creation of an 'Assessment for Learning' game, fostering creative application of theoretical concepts. In this module, you’ll answer questions like ‘what is curriculum and what role does it play in learning and development?’ ‘what factors shape curriculum, and is there a political agenda in national curricula?’, ‘why and how do we assess?’, ‘who and what should we assess?’, and many more.
