Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

1. Assess the role of marketing and apply key marketing principles to the equine business.

2. Appreciate the nature and significance of small business management.

3. Examine and evaluate the establishment of a business venture.

4. Write a business plan for an equestrian business.

5. Examine strategic management issues in entrepreneurial ventures.

Brief description

This module will provide an understanding of marketing principles as applied to rural businesses and demonstrate the need for marketing to be embedded within business plans. The module will set the context, nature and significance of small businesses, examine and evaluate the establishment of a business venture and review the role of strategic management in entrepreneurial ventures and small businesses.

Content

The module will provide a broad introduction to the marketing concept and the role of marketing in small businesses. The module also covers the development and managerial issues confronting smaller enterprises, entrepreneurial skills and the process of constructing, using and maintaining a business plan to achieve business objectives.
