Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Brief description

The aim of this module is to identify the key drivers and issues that are driving globalisation of industries and markets and, to further explore the main activities, structures and management of global and international logistics systems and supply networks

Aims

The aims of this module are
1. Analyse and evaluate how globalisation directly affects industries and markets across the world
2. Identify and evaluate the development and management of the logistics systems and supply chain functions in companies
3. Analyse the performance of supply chain systems and critically analyse the issues surrounding complex supply chains

Content

• The Drivers and trends of globalisation, Strategic outsourcing Overseas culture and market environments Logistics, supply chains and globalisation.
• Formal tools and techniques used in developing logistics strategy; Building scenarios and modelling, management of goods, financial agreements within supply chain management systems, tariffs, taxes and payment methods in complex supply chains
• Ordering and replenishment systems; Reverse logistics

Adaptability and resilience The students are required to adapt their strategies and approaches to providing a solution to the identified problem or issue and to show strong leadership skills to provide an effective solution to the issues identified
Creative Problem Solving The module demands the participants to apply analytical skills to reason and understand the challenging nature SCM. By introducing a variety of theoretical as well as empirical topics, the module enables students to develop creative thinking approaches to problem solving and to critically evaluate potential solutions to complex and challenging problems. These skills will have to be applied in seminar discussions, preparation of the written assessment. Supply Chain management tools and techniques
Critical and analytical thinking The module demands the participants to apply analytical skills to reason and understand the challenging nature of Supply Chain systems and apply specific tools and techniques to given situations. By introducing a variety of theoretical as well as empirical topics, the module enables students to develop creative thinking approaches to SCM based problem solving. These skills will have to be applied in seminar discussions, preparation of the coursework and timed assessment .
Digital capability Use a variety of electronic web- and library-based resources to review available information and retrieve pertinent information. Use of word-processing and spreadsheet skills in assignment and application of Excel based systems
Professional communication Must provide high quality reports and deliver a sound and well developed presentation of the key issues relating to the SCM
Reflection Students must show critical reflective skills and adapt and improve solutions and the quality of the reports on an ongoing basis
Subject Specific Skills This module develops students’ understanding and appreciation of environmental economic theories and how these can be applied to address global SCM issues.
