Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Critically evaluate the role of a range of Coaching and Mentoring techniques as an element of effective leadership and management.

Display a conceptual and practical appreciation of Coaching and Mentoring in a broader context including parallels with other fields such as sports coaching.

Demonstrate the ability to utilise appropriate Coaching and Mentoring methodology to prepare and undertake an effective Coaching session in the workplace.

Brief description

Students will develop a critical appreciation of the utilisation of Coaching in Organisations and how and when it can be effectively and appropriately used by middle and senior Managers. They will also be given ample opportunity to develop and improve their own Coaching skills through supported practice, self-reflection and group discussions on the benefits, applications and potential pitfalls of Coaching. Assessment of the module will be through a written assignment and also through a reflective journal and practical coaching exercise.

Content

This module will be delivered in 2 x 2 day teaching blocks a month apart followed by a fifth day for the practical assessment and overall module review.
