Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Part 1 –understand the function of modern banking system, including financial intermediation, operation of payment system, and the conduction and transmission channels of central bank monetary system
Part 2: describe, explain the impact of disruptive innovation on various traditional financial market: current Fintech environment, Fintech and banking, Fintech and payment system/cryptocurrency, Fintech and asset management, Fintech and insurance, Fintech and P2P and crowd funding
Part 3-compare and contract regulation and compliance in traditional financial markets and Fintech innovation markets- key regulatory frameworks on main/traditional global financial marketplace; emerging regulation for Fintech from different parts of the world (India, China and UAE, etc.)
Part 4-assess and criticise the challenges of Fintech innovation;
Part 5-assess how financial technology and innovation are impacting businesses and the drivers behind this; evaluate the use of Fintech and suggest innovative solutions for creating business value.
Brief description
Several governments over the world have placed financial technology (Fintech) and innovation at the heart of their economic development strategies. This module aims to equip students with the key concepts of Fintech and the drivers behind it; give an overview of current Fintech environment in financial and non-financial business sectors; update the traditional financial sector regulatory environment to an emerging regulatory environment under the impact of Fintech developments at an international level. Through this module, students will further learn and understand how financial technology and innovation create business values, how to identify business opportunities and to suggest corresponding financial technology and innovative solutions.
