Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

​1. Translate texts from Old Irish at an advanced level.

2. Appreciate at an advanced level a selection of texts of the period and understand their place in the history of Irish literature.

3. Demonstrate mastery of the most basic elements of Old Irish language.​

Brief description

Introduction to Old Irish for those who have not studied it before. Grammatical classes, and a chance to read some short texts and extracts from longer texts from the period, and to discuss their content and context.

Content

A series of 20 grammatical classes + reading some Old Irish texts and discussing their themes
