Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
1. Identify financial, health and safety, insurance, and legal requirements of an equine business.
2. Plan and carry out an equine event.
3. Discuss practical ways to optimize horse health and welfare with particular reference to yard layouts and facilities for horses.
Brief description
This module is designed to give students an insight into the organization and management of an equestrian organization including yard management and the running of events. It will give students the opportunity to organize an equine event or competition.
The module will develop the knowledge that underpins the ability to take responsibility for the organization and management of an equine yard (including competitions, commercial yards and private enterprise). The aims of the module are to enable students to make educated judgements/decisions on organising a yard, an event, and to Identify finance, health and safety, insurance and legal requirements

Content
The topics covered will be : Yard design, yard routines, yard maintenance.
The horse in sickness and in health, specific injuries in the competition horse.
Teeth and ageing, conformation.
Transporting horses/stress and the care of the competition horse.
The use of specialist tack.
Health and safety at work, risk assessment, legal aspects.
Planning, marketing and running an event, to include health and safety requirements and risk assessment.
Examination of basic financial documents, including recording keeping.
Public relations and how to promote the event and seek sponsorship.

| Subject Specific Skills | A knowledge and understanding of management and associated organization skills. A knowledge and understanding of Horsemastership and management. |
