Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

Critically examine ethical positions surrounding working with children.

Plan and critically evaluate a learning or care activity relevant to an educational or childcare setting.

Brief description

This module aims to provide students with a range of insights into relevant and necessary aspects of working with children. Students will be expected to acquire knowledge of the key concepts that are central to working with children and they will be expected to examine a range of approaches towards studying practices in various educational settings. All students opting to take this module, will be required to pay for a DBS check.

Aims

This module enables students to gain experience of working with children in educational or childcare settings and to apply their skills and knowledge of theory, policy and practice gained in other modules on the Childhood Studies programme.

Communication Communication techniques are a vital element throughout lectures and seminars. Spoken communication throughout seminar activities. Written communication throughout written assessments.

Information Technology Written assignments should be word-processed and one of the seminar tasks requires the development of a PowerPoint presentation.
