Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of the background to the implementation of ESDGC.
Evaluate the implementation of ESDGC.
Discuss the links between society, culture and environment in an educational context.
Develop strategies for implementing ESDGC.
Brief description
The module will introduce students to the background of Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship and will consider how it has been implemented in Schools. The module will consider more widely the relationship between Children and their environment drawing on social and cultural aspects.
Aims
To equip students with an understanding of Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship in schools.
To allow students to evaluate how children's lives are closely linked to culture and environment.

Content
Sessions may be a combination of lectures, seminars or workshops and will include the following topics:
Session 1: Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship: A background.
Session 2: Implementation Policy.
Session 3: Implementation in Practice.
Session 4: Challenges and barriers to Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship.
Session 5: The Child as a Global Citizen.
Session 6: International Perspectives on Global Citizenship and Childhood.
Session 7: Connecting the World.
Session 8: Lifestyle, identity and culture.
Session 9: Analysing the links between society, economy and the environment.
Session 10: The Welsh Context.
