Aims
The introduction of this major production module forms part of a wider departmental review of the Part 1 curriculum. It also responds to demands from single honours students for increased levels of practical production work. As such, it will lay a firmer foundation for production work at Part II in Film and Television Studies (FTVS) and Media and Communication Studies (MCS). The module also addresses important issues of convergence within the media industries, thereby enhacing the employability of TFTS graduates in FTV and MCS.
Brief description
This module enables students to engage in a range of media production activities including the writing, researching, shooting and editing of short films across various genres and incorporating a number of styles. In addition, issues of media convergence will be addressed through the dissemination of these films via the web and the maintenance of a blog by students which will allow a critical and theoretically-informed reflection on media production. Much of the time spent on the module will be self-directed learning in production groups.
