Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
- offer the student an important opportunity to experience more painting in general and for the acquisition of key skills in the methods and materials of painting in particular
- help the student towards finding subject matter and ways of working both personal to their own expressive needs and interests and appropriate to the course as a whole
- through interaction in tutorials help the student understand the capabilities and limitations of painting as a means of creative expression and communication
- empower the students with the knowledge needed to make informed and appropriate choices of methods and materials, their relative potentials and limitations through a course of lectures/demonstrations and individual tutorials
- give students some basic information about the history of methods and materials through a series of lectures/demonstrations
- establish patterns of the correct preparation of surfaces for painting and the correct methods of making and completing a painting with view to professional practice in the future
- have the acquisition of a knowledge of the processes involved in painting and the ability to correctly apply them through practical experience
- further the student's ability to evaluate and to articulate ideas about his/her own work and that of his/her peers through interaction in personal and/or group tutorials.
Brief description
The curriculum of Painting 3 plus: individual projects dealing with both the desire for personal expression and the necessary acquisition of skill and knowledge of methods, materialsand techniques.
Aims
- acquired key skills in the methods and materials of painting
- had valuable experience through a series of personal tutorials in finding subject matter and ways of working both personal to his/her own expressive needs and interest and appropriate to the medium of painting and to the course as a whole
- enhanced understanding of the capabilities and limitations of painting as a means of creative expression and communication
- be able to make more informed and appropriate choices of methods and materials, understanding their relative potentials and limitations
- acquired some basic information about the history of methods and materials through a series of lectures/demonstrations
- a good level of knowledge about the correct preparation of surfaces for painting and the correct methods of making and completing a painting, equipping him/her for professional practice in the future
- a good level of ability in evaluating and articulating ideas about his/her own work and that of his/her peers
