2. The requirements for energy, protein, vitamins and minerals, the rationing of feeds, and nutritional disorders as they relate to horses

Module Skills

Skills Type Skills details
Application of Number The rationing assignment will require students to manipulate numbers, and this will be assessed in the assignment
Communication Students will develop effective written communication skills in the examination and assignment, where these will be assessed.
Improving own Learning and Performance Outside the formal contact hours, students will be expected to research materials, manage time and meet deadlines for the assignment and exam.
Information Technology Accessing the web for reliable information sources and using databases to find literature in preparation for the assignment and the exam.
Personal Development and Career planning Students will gain confidence in their ability to evaluate feeds and rations though the module. The structure of the equine feed industry and its supporting research infrastructure will be implicit in the module, revealing some potential career destinations to students
Problem solving Rationing requires carefully balancing a range of competing interests for different nutrients. This will be developed and assessed in the assignment.
Research skills The assignment and exam will require students to research topics beyond the depth and scope of the lecture material. Information from a variety of sources will be used. Research skills will be assessed in both the examination and assignment.
Subject Specific Skills Subject specific concepts relating to equine nutrition and rationing for horses will be developed.
