Learning Outcomes
By the end of this module students will have acquired a basic stock of German vocabulary relating to economics and know their English equivalents. They will be able to translate business and commercial texts from German into English with a high degree of fluency, recognising the special requirements of such translations, and will be familiar with various aspects of German economic life.
Brief description
This module (which is mostly taught in German) is designed as an introduction to an area of language which has obvious practical application; it does not, however,
lead to the award of any kind of diploma. Students will be expected to familiarise themselves with various aspects of the economic life of the Federal Republic of Germany (e.g. commerce, trade, finance, insurance, export, industry, etc.). The main emphasis will fall on the ability to translate from German into English. The course will provide the student with a broad linguistic basis on which to build any future study of a more commercial nature.
