Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
Demonstrate an effective knowledge and critical understanding of the theoretical basis of critical discourse analysis.
Analyse texts using the tools of CDA and evaluate their analysis
Select discourses and texts for analysis and demonstrate a sustained and critical engagement.
Brief description
The module will introduce students to key approaches to critical discourse analysis. They will differentiate and critically evaluate key approaches. Students will conduct analyses of set texts and will select and analyze texts with a focus on education and childhood.
Aims
1. The module will equip students with a critical understand of discourse analysis as a tool for investigating texts.

Content
Delivery will be in two hour sessions, a combination of lecture, seminar and workshop.
1. What is discourse and critical discourse analysis? What is its significance in education?
2. Introduction to the theoretical background.

6/7. Practical application of tools – working with texts.
8. Identifying areas of investigation.
