On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
- Apply the mathematics and statistical methods required by practicing geoscientists
- Practice site investigations in accordance with BS5930: Code of practice for site investigations
- Apply and interpret the geophysical techniques used in site investigations
Content
- Data Analysis: Analysis and interpretation of geochemical data.
- Data Analysis: Analysis and interpretation of geochemical data.
- Data Analysis: Numeric skills for geoscientists (ie. estimating ore body sizes).
- Data analysis: Numeric skills for geoscientists).
- Site investigations: site investigation procedures according to BS5930.
- Site investigations: map work, surveying and GPS.
- Site investigations: boreholes, trial pits and sampling.
- Geophysics: seismic reflection and refraction.
- Geophysics: magnetic surveying and resistivity surveying.
- Geophysics: ground penetrating radar.
Brief description
This module will be in 3 parts: data analysis; site investigations and geophysical methods used in site investigations.
