Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

1. Demonstrate an awareness of how biological systems are being harnessed and exploited to improve the food supply chain.

2. Demonstrate an awareness of the technologies driving the securing of our food supplies.

3. Critically evaluate how human intervention and changes in behavior can alleviate problems of food security

4. Demonstrate an ability to communicate science effectively through oral and written media.

Content

General topics included would include holistic strategies for food production, GM vs non-GM, crop breeding for temperate and tropical agriculture , animal breeding, bioenergy crop breeding and integration with food crops, land restoration-management, biological control, aquaculture developments, minimising food waste, mitigation of environmental impacts.
