Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module students should be able to:

  • Define the key terms in Human Resource Management.
  • Explain the shift from Personnel Management to Human Resource Management.
  • Determine the key concepts of Human Resource Management.
  • Apply the elements of performance management to a company.
  • Examine Human Resource Management from an international dimension.
  • Determine the case for managing diversity in a company.

Aims

The aim of this module is to introduce MBA students to the key concepts related to human resource management. This will equip students with the relevant knowledge to use in a business context, which can be implemented either as an HR specialist, or as a non-HR specialist line manager. The course aims to use practical examples of HR issues, coupled with guest presentations from HR professionals, in order to clarify the links between Human Resource Management as an academic discipline and Human Resource Management in organisations.

Brief description

This module is designed to introduce MBA students to the fundamental principles and concepts of human resource management; how these are applied to practical issues such as recruitment, selection and training; and contemporary issues associated with the effective management of human resources in organisations both in the UK and international context.
