Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module students should be able to:
demonstrate familiarity with the conventions of postgraduate study in European Languages;
demonstrate that they have acquired information retrieval, bibliographical and referencing skills in the field of academic research in European Languages;
demonstrate that they have gained experience of how research results are disseminated;
demonstrate that they can reflect upon the effectiveness of different ways of presenting research in European Languages.
Content
This module aims to provide postgraduates in European Langugaes with skills which are necessary for advanced study in modern languages.
Content:
1. What is research in European Languages? Project formulation. Where to start? (2-hour seminar)
2. Subject-specific information skills session, including bibliographical sources (2-hour seminar)
3. Referencing and bibliography (1-hour seminar, 1-hour practical)
4. Tutorials relating to chosen assessment assignments (2 hours)
5. Attendance at Departmental Research Seminars, producing written feedback from a minimun of 2 seminars, including an assessment of effectiveness of presentation (6 hours work)
