Profile
I am the module co-ordinator for the Teaching for Postgraduates at Aberystwyth University (TPAU) programme. The programme develops the teaching skills of postgraduate students who are already teaching in their departments. The programme gives the student a grounding in the good practice of teaching and expands their knowledge and expertise in a range of core teaching areas. The programme is accredited through the Higher Education Academy (HEA) at Associate Fellowship level. Those who complete the programme will become an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
I am the main contact for Aberystwyth University for the Advance HE National Teaching Fellows (NTFs) and the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE). I designed and manage the bilingual internal process for both awards and will support all applicants, through mentoring, in all elements of the applications. I have also reviewed for Advance HE for both of these awards. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you want to know more about these two awards.
I run Welsh medium workshops on the requirements of the ARCHE scheme which has an overview of all levels of the HEA fellowships together with support and mentoring to academics who want to submit an application. I have also been an external reviewer for Bangor and Swansea at various levels, AFHEA, FHEA, SFHEA and PFHEA.
I also design and run other Welsh workshops on a variety of topics e.g. Peer Observation of Teaching. On request, I can also run bespoke Welsh medium workshops for departments or teams on learning and teaching and academic staff development.
I am responsible for all Welsh students registered on our Postgraduate Certificate of Teaching in Higher Education (PGCTHE). I am involved in all aspects of the scheme, which includes presenting at the Induction, peer observation of teaching and consultations on learning and teaching matters. I contribute to the national Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol CPD programme, primarily a workshop on Peer Observation of Teaching.
In previous years I was the co-coordinator of the Effective Leadership and Leading in Universities modules, which was designed for early career professionals. The modules looked at the models of leadership styles, team building, reflection and mentoring. I am Belbin accredited, so have run workshops as part of the leadership modules.
