"For the seventh consecutive year, Aberystwyth University overall is amongst the leaders in the UK on student satisfaction and is top in Wales."
The National Student Survey is a poll of recent graduates conducted across the UK and commissioned by the Higher Education funding bodies in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The independent market research agency, Ipsos MORI, conducted the 2011 survey, which drew responses from over 265,000 students. They form the basis of the Unistats university and college comparison web site.
For the seventh consecutive year, Aberystwyth University overall is amongst the leaders in the UK on student satisfaction and is top in Wales. The results of the 2012 survey will be released later in the summer.
IBERS courses have again performed very well. Subject-specific results are restricted to groupings of courses or individual courses in which there were sufficient responses to support reliable statistics. The IBERS course groupings are Biological Sciences and Agriculture & Related Sciences. The overall satisfaction figures for both (Biol. 94% and Agri. 96%) were again well above the UK average. In the individual courses Animal Science and Zoology, both on 96% satisfaction, the equivalent UK-wide averages are 81% and 90% respectively. This puts IBERS Animal Science in the top two in the UK, and IBERS Zoology in the top five.
Institute Director Professor Wayne Powell commented on the results: “This survey serves to confirm what our students already tell us about our teaching. The commitment and expertise of staff, the excellent resources such as farms, laboratories and the wonderful Aberystwyth environment, all combine to make IBERS an obvious first choice”.
As Dr John Warren, Director of Learning and Teaching observed: “These results reflect the hard work that goes on within the Institute in listening to students about their needs and working hard to ensure they get the best educational experience that we can give them”.
