We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Dimitra Blana to the role of lecturer. She completed her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University (USA) in 2008, and will contribute to the department's strengths in biomechanics and motor control. She has continued to work with CWRU in a consulting role since the completion of her PhD, and will extend that work in her new role as lecturer. Dr. Blana's research focuses on artificial control of movement for the restoration of function in spinal cord injury and other neuromuscular disorders. She has worked on computer models of the human arm that can simulate movements in real time, and can therefore be used as a substitute for the real human arm during development and testing of novel assistive technologies.
