Plastic Free Day 25.10.18

In 2018 Aberystwyth University became the first university to achieve Plastic free Certification. The scheme is run by Surfers Against Sewage and focuses on reducing the use of plastic items that are used only once before being thrown away, such as plastic bottles, coffee cups and lids, bags, cutlery, straws and stirrers. Whilst there are still many single-use plastic items within the University, the scheme recognises the great work being done to reduce their use and the institution’s ongoing commitment.

We will be holding a Plastic Free Day on Thursday 25 October which will include:

  • Hospitality outlets will restrict the sale of many single use plastic items
  • Single use plastic Information stands at each of our catering outlets

We will also be hosting the a public event:

The Big Plastic Debate – Problem or Opportunity?

Featuring a range of short presentations from local businesses and stakeholders, followed by open Q&A. Join the discussion, hear what is happening in Aberystwyth, and how you can get involved.

Jointly hosted by Aberystwyth University & Plastic Free Aberystwyth. Thurs 25th October 2018 – 6-8pm, Location: Medrus Mawr, Penbryn
