International Women's Day 2023
International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity #IWD2023.
We’re proud to celebrate International Women’s Day on the 8 March. Several special events and activity have been organised over the course of the week:
- “In the footsteps of Kathleen Carpenter” - Professor Catherine Duigan (Honorary Professor – Environmental Science) - Part of the IBERS/Natural Science seminar series
Monday 6 March, 4pm, Edward Llwyd 1.16 and available on Teams
Dr Kathleen Carpenter (1891-1970) was a pioneering freshwater ecologist. Following Dr Carpenter’s pioneering freshwater MSc and PhD research at Aberystwyth University, she authored the first freshwater ecology textbook in English – Life in Inland Waters (1928). Her work and writings are inspirational, combining scientific detail and dedication, with a very obvious love for freshwater environments and their biota.
