What is Clearing

Clearing might be a route you’d like to take if your results aren’t what you expected, you’ve changed your mind about your preferred course or where you’d like to study, or you’ve only just decided to make an application to study at a university.

If you’re interested in an undergraduate course that begins this September and you’re applying through UCAS, Clearing provides another avenue to find your place.

When does Clearing open?

Clearing opens on Friday, 5 July 2024 and closes on Monday, 21 October 2024

Who is Clearing for?

You’re eligible to apply through Clearing if:

  • On results day you find you haven’t been able to secure your Firm and Insurance places.
  • You have secured a place at your Firm or Insurance university but have decided that course or university is no longer the right one for you.
  • You decided not to apply earlier in the UCAS application cycle but you do want to go to university this Autumn.

How can I find out what courses are in Clearing?

From Friday, the 5th of July, you’ll be able to find a list of courses available in Clearing on the UCAS website, including the entry requirements for those courses. You should also take a look at university websites for additional information about the university, such as accommodation and student support services.
