How to Apply for a course through Clearing

Follow these steps to find out to apply for a course through Clearing.

1. Research

Take a look at the UCAS website and universities’ own sites to find a course and university that suits you. Remember to consider things like what accommodation is on offer, what support services they have and whether the location and type of university will suit you.

2. Contact the University

Once you have your results, you should contact universities directly to find out if they can make you an offer to study. There are a number of ways you can contact us at Aberystwyth:

We'll assess your qualifications against the course you'd like to study and try our very best to make you an offer. If we're unable to offer you a place on the course in which you're interested we'll discuss alternatives that may be of interest.

3. Getting an offer

The university you’re interested in will let you know whether they can make you an offer.

In order to accept the offer, you’ll need to add that course as your Clearing choice on UCAS Hub. Please note, UCAS Hub will be open from 1pm on A-Level results day, and you will only be able to add one Clearing choice.

4. Sort out your accommodation

Once you’ve accepted your Clearing offer, you’ll need to consider your accommodation. At Aberystwyth, we guarantee accommodation to Clearing applicants that apply for their room by the 1st of September. Once you’ve accepted your Clearing offer, we’ll send you an email with information about how to apply.

5. Visit the University

If you’ve not already visited the university you’ve chosen in Clearing, there’s likely to be opportunities to do so in the week(s) after results day.

We’re holding Clearing Visit Days on Friday 16th, Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th of August, where you will have the opportunity to meet with academics from your course, explore the campus and view our accommodation. If we’re able to make you a Clearing offer, we’ll email you with information about these events. Alternatively, if you would like to visit before you apply through Clearing, you’re welcome to come along and see if the University is the right fit for you.

6. Update your student finance application

If you haven’t already applied for a student loan, take a look at the below websites to learn more about what you need to do. Applications can take 6 weeks to process so it’s best to start the process as soon as possible.
