Semester Assessment | Continuous assessment You will be graded on the coursework you submit across the semester, not through a final examination. You will have to submit 2 pieces of coursework throughout the module, one per national cinema discussed. Each piece of coursework is weighted equally (50% each of the module mark). If you fail to submit any of the pieces of coursework, you will receive a zero for that piece and your overall module mark will therefore be reduced accordingly. | 100% |

Have a thorough grounding in the cultural history of film-making in Europe.
Be familiar with the political and social contexts in which these films were made.
Have a good general knowledge of major film-makers.
Have developed their skills in the field of comparative study.
Brief description
This module is intended for students who are interested in the film history and culture of Europe. The module provides an opportunity for students to learn about the development of film in Europe and in particular countries. Lectures will outline the major social and political changes which were influential in the making of these countries' films, and seminars will be of a comparative nature.
